Gulf Coast Recovery - 7th Annual Holiday Toy Drive
for the children and families of the Biloxi Chitimacha Native Americans |
My name is Elaine Langley and I'm a RN and volunteer with Plenty International. This is my fourth year bringing Christmas to the children and families of the Biloxi Chitimacha Native Americans of Isle de Jean Charles and Pointe Aux Chenes outside of Houma, Louisiana.
|
Elaine Langley works as an RN in New Orleans and has been volunteering in the Gulf since Hurricane Katrina.. |
The situation in this area continues to be dire for these tribal families.
Hurricane Lee flooded many of the families last September and the oil disaster of last year has virtually destroyed the tribe's livelihood that for decades has relied on the Gulf's abundant shrimp, oysters and crabs. |

On December 18th, I will be participating in a Christmas Toy Giveaway Parade with Chief Albert Naquin, Chief of the Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw Indians of Isle de Jean Charles where over 100 children will be given toys.
