Pine Ridge Agriculture

(Left to right) Wally Left Hand, Tom Cook and Duane Locke, gardens project coordinators with a trailer-load of 60 flats of vegetable seedlings to be planted in 22 neighborhood gardens in the Porcupine District on Pine Ridge Reservation. Reservation-wide 356 gardens were planted by the project in 2007, which marks the 21st anniversary of the gardens project. Since 1994, Running Strong For American Indian Youth has been the primary funder with supplemental funding and technical support provided by Plenty.

Eleven volunteers from Fordham University’s Global Outreach Program worked at Pine Ridge for a week in May. Here they are helping with Bo and Misty Davis’s garden.
