The Toledo Ecotourism Association (TEA) is a group of Mayan and Garifuna villages located in the rainforest and other endangered eco-systems in the southern part of Belize.
The mission of the TEA. is to create jobs in the villages, keep tourism to a manageable level, and educate visitors about the beauty and value of the indigenous cultures and the environment that the native people inhabit. To meet these goals, the TEA has several programs.

Key TEA Programs

TEA Village Guesthouse and Ecotrail Program - This is an Ecotourism Guesthouse stay in a Mayan or Garifuna Village guesthouse. Meals are taken with families. Sanitation standards are rigorously maintained. Jungle trail walks, visits to Mayan ruins, canoe rides, traditional Mayan or Garifuna music and more.

Mayan Woodcarvers provide needed income for their families.

TEA Arts and Crafts - A large variety of Arts and Crafts created by local artisans is available for purchase through the TEA. For more information, click below to send us an email.

Logging of rainforest hardwoods is taking its toll on the jungle's delicate ecosystem. Your support of the TEA helps preserve and protect this ancestral home of the Mayan people.

    Doors to the Future
    - A local conservation effort currently being offered as an alternative to the destructive logging of the rainforest. A limited number of selected hardwood trees would be cut and milled where they are cut. The boards would be carried by donkeys to the villages where Mayan
woodworkers would build doors and furniture for sale in Belize and beyond.

    Sustainable Agriculture
    - Finding and practicing alternatives to slash and burn.

Slash and burn agriculture on the steep mountain slopes.

TEA Indigenous Museums - Local museums to preserve the cultures of indigenous peoples.
