Based in New York and Liberia, West Africa, Imani House International (IHI) works to improve the quality of life of low-income families, refugees, youth and immigrants. IHIs programs support the creation of viable communities where residents are decision- makers who interact with each other and take responsibility for the improvement of their lives and surroundings. Plenty has been working with IHI since 1990. In 2002 Plenty staff identified funding leads for IHIs Liberian projects, and Plenty Board member, Sofia Casini, was actively involved as a volunteer with IHIs English as a Second Language classes in Brooklyn, NY. These classes are made up of either newly arrived immigrants or long time residents of the city who do not have the skills yet to speak, read, or write English well enough to realize their goals in this country.
