The picturesque Maya villages of southern Belize present a window into the traditional way of life of the great Maya civilization of thousands of years ago. Surrounded by virgin jungle rainforests and incredible rivers teeming with birds and other wildlife, ancient ruins link the past with the present, and the Maya people of today. Let us be your guide to thundering waterfalls, deep dark caves and the deserted islands and beaches of our blue Caribbean sea. We promise you will have the experience of a lifetime.

One of the unique elements of the Belize Mayan experience is that although in the villages the primary languages are Mopan and Kek' chi Maya, English, not Spanish, is spoken as a second language. This stems from the colonial period when Belize was part of the British commonwealth, known at that times as British Honduras. Because there is no language barrier, visitors are able to communicate clearly with the Mayan people of the villages, for a true cultural exchange.

Unlike many "jungle lodges" which are owned by American or European ex-patriots, the Toledo Ecotourism Association is owned and operated by an association of Mopan, Kek'chi and Garifuna villages. The association enables the local people to plan, control and profit directly from ecotourism.
