Articles: Introduction On Saturday, April 15, 2006, Kids To The Country Earth Day Celebration was held at the Peace Garden and Compost Site in Nashville, TN. The event ran from 11:00 until 2:00 with the Kids To The Country reuniting with each other and reconnecting with the Earth in the spirit of spring renewal.
The KTC Spring Program consists of turning the giant compost pile in celebration of the value of our Earth and her gift of growing food. In this part of our curriculum program we have the opportunity to reconnect with the children and enable them to see how our human roots depend on a healthy Earth. We have games and activities like Rake Aerobics and Recycle Relay as well as making items to take home to remember the occasion. Kids To The Country (KTC) is a 20 year old multicultural program for Nashvilles at-risk children. Our summer nature study program brings kids who otherwise would not get the opportunity, a chance to get out of the city and connect to the natural rhythms of the Earth through direct hands on experience. These youngsters come from homeless shelters, refugee centers and lowincome neighborhoods. Over 2,800 children have participated since the programs inception in 1986. KTC is looking for funding for it's 2006 Summer Program. If you would like to help, please make a donation. You can reach KTC by calling (931) 209-8119 (Mary Ellen) or (615) 300-2941 (Sizwe) or email ktcfarm@usit.net |
