Plenty Belize
In 2007 Plenty Belize was awarded a grant by Onaway Trust to help start gardens at two new schools, Pueblo Viejo and Crique Sarco. Because much of the school year
falls during the six month dry season, and the Pueblo Viejo garden site was so distant from a water source, Plenty Belize Executive Director, Mark Miller, devised a solar-powered pumping system to pump water from a large rain catchment tank below the school roof up to a smaller tank on the roof of the school so water could be gravity fed both to irrigate the garden and flush toilets in the school.
To date, Plenty Belize has helped 31 village schools in the Toledo District establish organic gardens.
