On Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota, Plenty assists more than 200 Lakota families to grow vegetable gardens in culturally compatible ways.
We are now considering developing a buy-back vegetable program that would keep more vegetables on the Reservation while providing income to the gardeners.
Greenhouse upgrades (like heat) or a new greenhouse are needed, and a barn for working on tractors and other equipment. Grasshoppers have been a big problem and money is needed for organic pest control.
Many thanks to Onaway Trust and Philip R. Jonsson Foundation for their support.
