Yomimsamwhe (thank you with blessings in Shuar)

The group Kara Shuar was born in 1985 in the community of San Pedro Saka-Entsa, which is located in the south of Amazonia in Ecuador, at the foot of the cordillera of the condor, on the border of Peru, in the conton of Gualaquiza, parrochia of Nueva Tarqui, Province of Morona Santiago, where the Bomboiza and Saka-Entsa rivers meet.

Eighteen years have passed since the apparition of our group, and in spite of so many obstacles, the jaguar warriors Kara Shuar persist in the battle to maintain an ancient culture for the benefit of humanity.

The songs here are orginal compostions of Kara Shuar who are didicated to making music, whether it be for recreation, dancing or religious purposes.

We are committed to the life-long study of the handling and use of the natura medicines of our Amazonia, to healing ourselves naturally. We want to share these experiences and put them in the service of our fellow brothers and sisters. My family is dedicated to crafts, music, theatre, dance, painint, agriculture and medicine.

Through visions and dreams, something of the grandeur of these societies of the American continent will be re-discovered. Their only weapons were love, goodness, simplicity and humility, used in the service of others.

Two Jaguar Warriors, Juan Uyunkar and Edgar Wainchaitai Uyunkar undertook bringing Shuar traditional wisdom to the Western World by their service as Shuar Uwishin traditional doctors. They encountered a challenge by the Canadian legal system in 2001 wherein their traditional healing practices were put on trial. The case was eventually won by substantial international support.

This CD Kara Shuar, produced in Canada hopes to introduce their ancient ways through its music, while raising funded needed for their cultural survival. And highlights of Shuar traditional wisdom are included on the linear notes.
